As a child, some of my greatest memories are that of my parents reading to me.
Not only did it build trust, but supported an incredible love with them and a love of reading in my own heart. Not only were these times calming, but reading was such an easy way to connect with them and feel comforted. I recognize that I was beyond blessed to have two parents home that were able to do this. Read in Red was designed to support those same moments and connections and comfort within kids simply by reading to them.
As an adult and working in hospitals. I was struck by how many people would be recovering from surgery or in the ICU and were alone. Even rooms where a family member was present, they looked like an hour break would do wonders for them, but they didn’t want to leave their loved ones’ side. Read in Red was designed to support a similar connection, and comfort in adults simply by reading to them.
Watching my daughter Ayla read to my two new baby twins Jayden and Skyler, I saw how much this time benefited our whole family. I wanted to find an opportunity for all my daughters to read, connect and volunteer in their community.
